The Micoteca da Universidade do Minho (MUM), was established in 1996, aiming to maintain and supply fungal strains for teaching and research in biotechnology and life sciences, and to become a centre of knowledge, information and training in mycology, in articulation with other national and international collections (http://www.micoteca.deb.uminho.pt/). With this proposal MUM is an ISO 9001:2008 certified culture collection.
This conforms to the institutional policy of the University of Minho to establish transversal and integrated services to support research.
All this work and research expended in underpinning culture collection and the contributions that MUM gives at the national and international level, were the stimuli for MUM to organise the ECCO XXXI Annual Meeting in Braga. Furthermore, the strong linkage that MUM has developed between academia, industry, services, and other important stakeholders encouraged MUM to embrace the concept of Closing the gap between science and society.
